Bachelor of Science Degree
The students are provided with an understanding of criminal offending and the criminal justice process with the help of the study of criminal justice. With the growth in society, the scope of this career and the need to understand reasons of such behavioral occurrence will also rise tremendously. This program approaches the study of criminal justice in the United States by considering multiple disciplines. The program includes topics in corrections, criminology and policing to allow students to develop a professional understanding of specific areas of interest. This degree will prove to be very valuable to students keen in pursuing careers in the areas of criminal justice, crime prevention, child behavioral problems, adolescent delinquency and effective intervention.
Our criminal justice degree students have diverse backgrounds and interests. A lot of students will choose classes that they enjoy, or that will enhance a certain area. A good amount of our student body wishes to include their interests in anthropology, literature, psychology, sociology and women\'s studies. However, experience shows that students who avail themselves the opportunities to take courses in accounting, biology, business, chemistry, forensics or a foreign language enjoy increased employment opportunities.
An undergraduate degree in criminal justice includes a field placement requirement. Seniors can expand upon their education by taking part in a field placement where they will gain practical and useful experiences in the field.
A total of a minimum of 180 credit hours need to be completed by students who are pursuing the Bachelor of Science degree. These are inclusive of general education, core classes and field placement. As an undergraduate criminal justice student, you will be required to earn a minor. This is a decision made by students and their academic advisors. After students complete their first year of classes, they are asked to select a minor.
Criminal Justice Administration Certificate
The students who have earned the associate degree in pre-criminal justice and want to specialize in a related area can take the Criminal justice Administration certificate program to complement their degree. For this, there is a one year certificate program in criminal justice administration offered at the Behavioral Science Department. Don\'t forget that these programs are supposed to add to the associate degree program, and are supposed to be earned instead of a degree. You can take some of the course requirements for the certificate programs as electives in the pre-criminal justice program and reduce the number of courses required.
Opportunities to develop sensitivity awareness, and the knowledge and skills involved in the administration of justice in the United States are provided by the criminal justice administration program. This program will emphasize on subjects pertaining to administrative responsibilities within police departments, the court system, correctional institutions and agencies concerning both adults and juveniles.
This one-year certificate program is meant to complement and improve the course work of students studying for an associate degree or upper-level studies, or who have already successfully undergone a criminal justice degree program. The pre-criminal justice degree program at Raymond Walters College (RWC) is offered as a complement to prior coursework, or to count towards earning a degree.
