Paralegals are an essential part of any law office. They can perform many of the roles of an attorney, such as interviewing clients and witnesses, preparing legal documents for the lawyer to review, researching points of law, and assisting the attorney during court. However, a paralegal may not practice law - such as by arguing in a case in court or giving legal advice. Independent certification is voluntary.
