Legal assistant schools in Washington prepare students through academic courses and curriculum to enter the legal field and work as a legal assistant alongside a licensed attorney. Most Washington state programs allow students to receive a one-year certificate as a legal assistant. Two-year programs are also available and upon graduation the student receives an associate’s degree. Classes covered in the program include criminal law, criminal justice, personal injury, business law, and family law. Common office and legal software is also taught in the classroom. Graduates of the program commonly enter employment in a private law practice. Job opportunities are also available in government offices, corporate law departments, and legal aid services.
