Legal assistant schools in New Mexico offer associate’s degree programs that qualify students for a career as a paralegal or legal assistant. Legal assistants are an important part of a legal team because of the important work they perform. Much of their time is spent pouring over relevant case law, strategizing about legal maneuvers with attorneys, checking legal facts in preparation for court, writing legal paperwork, and interviewing clients. Paralegals cannot charge for their legal services, present in court, or give legal advice. Students can expect a strong job market upon graduation as paralegals are expected to be in great demand due to their inexpensive salaries compared to attorneys and the value they add to the legal team.
