Legal assistant schools in Alberta offer students with educational programs that prepare them for a career in the legal field. Students may choose from receiving a short term certificate or an associate’s degree, depending on the length of study. Short term legal assistant certificates can be obtained in as little as one year, while an associate’s degree in the program typically takes two years. Graduates of a legal assistant program become skilled in performing many of the same duties as an attorney. Although forbidden from giving advice or practicing law, legal assistants are able to prepare documents for court, interface with clients, create legal documents, and research legal cases.
