AIU's Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (BSCJ) program provides students the opportunity to gain a more thorough understanding of law enforcement, criminology, corrections, criminal justice and juvenile justice processes, and the courts system. To prepare students to become qualified criminal justice professionals is the main objective of this program.

Students who would like to further define and specialize their profession to a certain field will be able to choose from a myriad of different concentrations offered by the BSCJ degree programs. For students wishing to explore a comprehensive look at the criminal justice field, a concentration in General Criminal Justice is recommended.

Students completing the BSCJ program with a concentration in General Criminal Justice will be prepared to pursue careers as:

Students who successfully complete the program should be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a vital career in criminal justice and related professions.
  • Base for the application of knowledge of criminology, including the reasons of crime, typologies, offenders and victims should be demonstrated.
  • Demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the criminal justice and juvenile justice processes.
  • Show knowledge and understanding of principles such as police organization, discretion, subculture and legal constraints should be demonstrated.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of law adjudication, including criminal law, prosecution, defense, court procedures and processes involving making legal decisions
  • Show knowledge of corrections and parole, including incarceration, community-based corrections and offender treatment, as well as options for traditional parole.
